If we’re being honest for a moment…
December has a way of sweeping us off our feet before we even realize what happened.
One minute we’re pulling out the Christmas bins, and the next we’re drowning in school programs, office parties, shopping lists, travel plans, family expectations, and this nagging feeling that we should be feeling more Christmas cheer than we actually are.
Have you ever reached Christmas Eve and thought, “Wait… did I even spend time with Jesus this month?”
I have. Many times. As a busy mom with a pack of young kids my days were nonstop, and I was just trying to juggle it all without dropping anything really important.
This year lets do something different!
This year, I want to invite you into something different. Something slower. Something purposeful. Something holier.
A December that doesn’t drain you… but prepares you.
A December that feels less like survival… and more like worship.
A December where Jesus is not just squeezed into the cracks.
Welcome in Advent
Why Advent Matters More Than Ever
Advent is a word we hear often, but sometimes we forget what it really means.
Advent simply means “arrival” or “coming.”
It’s a season of waiting.
A season of longing.
A season of preparation for the Savior who stepped into our darkness to bring us hope.
It’s not meant to be chaotic or frantic.
It’s meant to help us breathe.
To help us remember and anticipate Christ with fresh wonder — the same way Israel longed for the Messiah, and the same way we now long for His return.
But here’s the truth…
We’re not living in quiet little villages with candles and carolers and softly falling snow.
We’re living in real life — carpool lanes, grocery bills, loud children, laundry piles, long workdays, and a world that moves faster than any of us can keep up with.
And Advent gets swallowed whole.
But does it have to?
When December Steals Our Attention (and How to Take It Back)
I think a lot of women feel this deep ache around Christmas that they don’t often say out loud:
“I want to focus on Jesus… I really do…
But I don’t know how to when everything feels so loud.”
We blame ourselves.
We feel guilty.
We think we’re failing.
But you’re not failing. You’re human.
And here’s the thing nobody says enough:
Jesus never asked you for a perfect Christmas — He asked for your heart.
He knows your life.
He understands your season.
He sees the impossible expectations that pile up on your shoulders in December.
What He wants most is to meet you in the middle of it.
Your kitchen.
Your car rides.
Your quiet five minutes before everyone wakes up.
Your exhausted end-of-the-day collapse into bed.
This is the heart of Advent:
Not doing more…
But noticing more.
Not adding pressure…
But inviting Presence.
The Gentle Invitation: Prepare Him Room
Every year, this same phrase stirs something holy in me:
Prepare Him Room.
Not: prepare the house.
Not: prepare the perfect holiday.
Not: prepare everyone else’s expectations.
Prepare Him room.
Make space for the One who has already made space for you.
The Advent season whispers, “Slow down, daughter. He is coming. Don’t miss Him.”
Not as pressure, but as a promise.
Because Emmanuel — God with us — means you are not walking through this season alone.
He is not far-off or hard to reach.
He is near, present, and waiting for you to look up.
And this is the heartbeat behind the Emmanuel: Prepare Him Room Advent Journal — creating a simple, beautiful, and doable way to draw closer to Him.
Introducing: Emmanuel — Prepare Him Room (The Advent Journal for Real Life)
I created this journal because I know how it feels to want a meaningful Advent… and then feel crushed by the weight of everything else.
I wanted something that felt warm and inviting — not one more thing on the to-do list.
Something that made Scripture simple and devotional moments manageable.
Something that spoke to women like us:
Busy moms and wives
Women rebuilding spiritual rhythms
New Christians discovering Advent for the first time
Women who feel spiritually dry and long for renewal
Anyone who wants a quieter, more Christ-centered Christmas
This journal is your companion — not your taskmaster.
What’s Inside the Emmanuel Advent Journal
Inside, you’ll find a gentle structure that guides without overwhelming:
Daily Scripture readings chosen specifically for Advent themes: hope, peace, joy, and love.
Reflection prompts to help you slow down and listen for God’s voice.
Prayer space to pour out your heart and record how God is speaking.
Weekly devotional themes that center you on Christ instead of chaos.
Thoughtful journaling pages for personal insights and spiritual growth.
Calming, beautiful design that turns your quiet time into a peaceful experience.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about presence.
Your presence with Him… and His presence with you.
How to Use This Journal Throughout Advent
The beauty of this journal is that you can use it in whatever way fits your season:
Morning Moments
Grab your coffee, open the journal, and spend five quiet minutes in Scripture before the day rushes in.
Evening Wind-Down
Use it while the house is quiet. Let the Word wash the day off your shoulders before you sleep.
Sunday Reset
Use Sunday pages to refocus, reflect, and prepare your heart for a new week of Advent.
Candle Lighting Tradition
Pair your journal time with the lighting of Advent candles — a simple ritual that slows your pace and deepens your reflection. We love this simple Advent wreath on Amazon for it’s electric candles so that we can enjoy it and not have to worry about safety.

Worship Music
Put on instrumental Christmas worship or while you journal. There are really great options on Spotify.
Imperfectly, Honestly, Realistically
If you miss a day?
Don’t stress. Don’t quit.
Pick up right where you left off.
God is not grading you — He is inviting you.
The Spiritual Beauty of a Christ-Centered December
Here’s what happens when we intentionally prepare Him room:
More Peace
Not because life gets quieter…
But because our heart does.
More Clarity
God speaks in stillness, and Advent helps us reclaim it.
More Joy
Not the glittery, emotional kind — but deep, anchored joy in Christ.
More Presence
We begin to notice God in the everyday moments:
the laughter around the table, the crisp cold mornings, the warm lights on the tree, the whispered prayers.
More Meaning
Christmas stops being “busy” and becomes “holy.”
More Hope
Not because everything is perfect…
But because Emmanuel — God with us — is near.
There is an awakening happening in the world, you can read more about that in our recent post… but more people are looking for Emmanuel than ever…we are anxiously waiting for Him to be near us!
An Invitation: Choose a Different Kind of December
If your heart has been longing for something deeper this year…
If you’re tired of the rushed, commercial version of Christmas…
If you’re ready for more Jesus and less chaos…
This is your invitation.
Choose a December where your soul can breathe.
Choose a December anchored in Scripture.
Choose a December where Christ is not squeezed into the margins.
Choose a December where Emmanuel is the focus — not the afterthought.
The Emmanuel: Prepare Him Room Advent Journal was created to help you step into a season of intentionality, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Use it personally.
Gift it to a friend or sister in Christ.
Use it in small groups or women’s ministry.
Share it with someone who needs hope, peace, and encouragement.
Conclusion: Emmanuel — God With Us
As we step into this Advent season, my prayer for you is simple:
May you feel the nearness of Christ in every moment.
May your heart slow down long enough to notice His presence.
May your home be filled with peace that only He can give.
And may this Advent be a turning point — a moment where you choose to prepare Him room in a fresh, beautiful way.
Emmanuel.
God with us.
God with you.
Right here.
Right now.
In this season.
In this moment.
In your very ordinary, very real December.
