How a Simple Sermon Notebook Became a Homemade Ministry

When you are a mama, you never realize all the little everyday things that will affect your life…like trying to find a Sermon Notebook that works for your daughter. That should be simple right? There are millions of notebooks in the world… oh, but no…

In our family we have one leftie… our oldest daughter, Dallas, who has struggled doing everything ‘backwards’ since she was little bitty.

For years Dallas has struggled to find a notebook she could actually write in at church without fighting it. Every journal we bought her — even the “nice” ones — left her hand-smudged, cramped, and frustrated.

Something meant to help her grow in her faith was instead distracting her from it.

One Sunday our Pastor was preaching from 1 Peter- where there is just SO much meat and we were just so encouraged- we were trying to jot down as much as we could…

Dallas looked at me frustrated afterwards and said “I’m going to have to go home and rewrite these so I can read them later…this journal just keeps flopping…

[As a side note …I cannot even tell you how much that preaching blessed me…you should absolutely go listen to it HERE– it’s probably the most impactful sermon I’ve heard in my entire 22 years of being saved thus far!]

But I thought, Why aren’t there beautiful, faith‑based journals and notebooks made for lefties? I mean, she can’t be the only one- and even if the market is small…it’s still there.

What started as a simple solution for our daughter has become a small, heartfelt ministry — one that serves men and women who want to write their prayers, study Scripture, and stay rooted in God’s Word with tools that truly serve them.

The Problem So Many Face (But Rarely Talk About)

Our options when it comes to things like Sermon Notebooks and Prayer Journals are really slim-

The few you can find are:

  • Mass‑produced

  • Thin‑papered

  • Not designed for real daily use

  • Not made for left‑handed writers

  • Lacking the warmth and beauty that makes quiet time feel inviting

And the to top all of that off… They’re created by large companies who mock our God and profit off of Him while they do it- and I just hate that!

I just can’t be alone in thinking Christians really would like journals and notebooks that are beautiful and feel personal — something made with intention, prayer, and care. Not something stamped out by the millions overseas by people who hate our Jesus and our country.

Why I Started Making Notebooks

So, I went looking for a sermon notebook for Dallas…and I couldn’t find anything- at all… there was nothing. The few left-handed notebooks were plain… the sermon notebooks were all either glue bindings that flop and don’t open all the way and/or right-handed. There was nothing even close to what I was looking for- how could that be?

So, this didn’t begin as any kind of business. I began it as a mom.

I wanted my daughter to have a sermon notebook that:

  • Didn’t hurt her hand

  • Didn’t smear her ink

  • Let her have something beautiful

  • Invited her into Scripture, not away from it

Being a homeschooling mom for 25 years means I’m well versed in making things that work for us- practical and personized is one of my favorite things!

And so, I designed a journal for my baby…and had to triple check every time I punched the holes to make sure I was putting them on the “wrong” side. lol

She LOVED it!

The next week while learning the presentation software at church from one of the young men who faithfully serves there- I noticed he was left-handed too. The thought came to me that I could make him one, as a thank you for taking the time to teach me…and just as a token of encouragement.

We really need to do a better job encouraging our youth as they serve in the church… but that’s a topic for another day 😉

It didn’t take much to find out what his favorite scripture was- and so I was able to personalize it…and create an image that fit a young man of faith.

Praying for him and creating that journal blessed me more than his receiving of it, I’m sure.

And a light was lit…

I created a series of images for my husband- my knight in armor. (I didn’t forget the shining bit…when you have a good man who fights the good fight…he’s battled and doesn’t have shiny armor- only guys who sit on the sidelines have that )

I made a right‑handed ones. Then more sermon notebooks. Then a prayer journal. Then a Spurgeon study journal…

I found myself giving them away — to friends, to women at church, to anyone who needed encouragement. It became a ministry of encouragement.

And now we want to share them with you!

What started as a simple way to help our left‑handed daughter write comfortably has turned into something much bigger — a way to encourage men and women to slow down, open the Word, and spend time with God in a way that feels personal and meaningful.

Each notebook is made by hand, prayed over, and designed to help you draw closer to Christ — whether you’re writing sermon notes, prayers, or reflections from your quiet time. They’ve also become some of our favorite gifts to give — small reminders of faith and encouragement that last far beyond the moment they’re opened.

If you’d like something custom — a special verse, a name, or a design that fits your ministry — we’d love to create it for you.
